1. Please briefly introduce yourself.

Hello, my name is Nguyen Thanh Mai, and I am from Vietnam. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Tourism Administration at Kangwon National University. I have a great passion for traveling, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures. These experiences have helped me become more open-minded and always willing to learn from others.

 

2. Why did you choose to study at Kangwon National University?

I chose Kangwon National University because it is a respected national university in Korea with a strong academic reputation. I was also attracted by the opportunity to learn from experienced professors in my field and study in a welcoming international environment. I believed that KNU would be a good place for me to grow both academically and personally.

 

3. What surprised you the most about studying in Korea or at Kangwon National University?

What surprised me the most was how hardworking students are in Korea. Many Korean students study almost all day, and I often saw them staying at the library until late at night. I was also impressed by international students at KNU, who are very diligent and speak Korean very well. Their attitude motivated me to study harder as well.

 

 

 

 

4. What has been the most memorable experience during your student life at KNU?

I have had many meaningful experiences at KNU, such as participating in cultural programs, academic seminars, club activities, and school trips. Among them, the most memorable experience was joining KNU’s 2025 Summer Overseas Volunteer Program in Vietnam. Through this program, I not only improved my Korean language skills and learned valuable soft skills, but also felt grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the friendship between Korea and Vietnam.

 

5. You participated in KNU's Summer Overseas Volunteer Program in Vietnam. How did it feel to return to your home country as a volunteer representing a Korean university?

Returning to Vietnam felt different because I came back as both a KNU student and an interpreter. I felt a greater sense of responsibility to deliver the words and thoughts of both sides as accurately and sincerely as possible. This experience helped me realize the meaningful role of language in connecting people and cultures.

 

6. During the volunteer program, was there a moment when you felt proud to be both Vietnamese and a student of Kangwon National University?

 

I felt especially proud when I saw Korean and Vietnamese volunteers working together and gradually becoming closer despite the language and cultural differences. As someone who understands both cultures, I was happy to see how sincere communication could bring people together.

 

7. What opportunities or experiences can students enjoy when they study at KNU?

At KNU, international students can enjoy many valuable opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. They can learn from experienced professors, study in a supportive academic environment, and also take part in club activities, cultural programs, career programs, and school trips. These experiences help students build knowledge, make new friends, and enjoy a richer student life in Korea.

 

 

8. Looking back on your journey at KNU, what moment made you feel that coming to Korea was the right decision?

When I completed my thesis and looked back on the goals and plans I had set before coming to Korea, I realized that I had gained many meaningful experiences here. At KNU, I was able to grow not only through academic studies, but also through extracurricular activities and experiencing life in a different country. These experiences made me feel that coming to Korea was truly the right decision.

 

9. What are your goals after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to work for organizations or institutions that organize cultural exchange programs between Korea and Vietnam. I would like to use the knowledge and experience I gained at KNU to help connect people from both countries. In the future, I hope to contribute to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Korea and Vietnam.

 

10. What advice would you give to students who are considering studying in Korea?

My advice is to prepare your Korean language skills as much as possible before coming to Korea, as it will help with both studying and daily life. Studying abroad may feel challenging at first, but if you stay open-minded and willing to learn, Korea can become a meaningful place to grow academically and personally.
